James in H-town - 10-06-2008, 03:41 PM

Good afternoon All,
Well here is my introduction. I'll keep it short so that i don't lose anybodies interest. :-) I am in Houston and just got my first Dslr. Making the jump from point and shoot has been a big step for me. And so far I love it. I think I found something better than a girl friend. Not really, it just helps fill in the time. :-) I own a Nikon D60 with the 18-55 VR kit lens and a 55- 200 Telephoto. In my haste and joy of ordering a new camera I did not order the VR on the 55- 200. (duh) Otherwise I am shooting pictures and have yet to fill up a 4 gigabyte SD card. I like to shoot nature, aviation. I need to work on shooting people. So my goals are to learn and improve all around. I never realized how big the photography world was til I really started looking. Kind of like Alice falling down the rabbit hole.
So in closing, thank you for letting me be a part of this forum and please bare with me if some of my questions may seem simple to some. I am still learning, and use the internet to try and find my answers before asking. I am in a Nikon group on Yahoo! and they are some great people and very helpful.
I dream of maybe one day I'll have one of my pics on the cover of Texas Highways.
Have a great day and thank you for taking time to read my intro.
James

Thank you all for the Howdy's and welcomes. Spent a day at the airshow today with the D60 and shot over 1500 pics. Sorry Capt. Tom. Alot of it was done in "AUTO" and JPEG. :-)
I am working on slower items in RAW and trying to read my (gulp) manual. I just get so excited when I go shooting that I forget and take advantage of the features. I know my camera can do so much more. I just get a little inpatient. Real challenge is using manual focus on moving objects, but I'm getting it. I did find out that my 18-55 "kit lens" is not really all that great. Kind of quirky. Running my 55-200 telephoto lense is great, but I'm already wanting more glass. Want a wide angle and another zoom. Maybe try a tele-converter. Anyone ever try one on a D60? Oh well, sorry so wordy.
Have a great night.
James
