The black bear close to the car was a mile or so south of the park HQ in Mammoth. Not far from the turn out on the top of Mammoth.

The one I have pictured here was approximately 1/2 way between Madison and Norris.

We saw a grizzly 50 yards from the road between Tower and Canyon.

We also saw a black bear and cub well off the road (600 yds?) between Madison and W. Yellowstone.

So, basically, we saw them throughout the park. However, the Rangers did tell me that most of the grizzly sightings were between Tower and Canyon at the higher elevations.

Thank you, I was just curious. It seems you had a lot more sightings than average. maybe they are more active this year... Good for the photographers...
