Deer Sculpture at night - 02-15-2010, 09:09 PM

Was experimenting with some night time photography up in the Woodlands this past weekend.

Still trying to figure out best way to get around blowing out the highlights of the few items that are brightly lit. Any tips are welcome.

Seems like the tree in the foreground is the problem here. Just thinking off the top of my head, you could :

* Clone out the tree using some of the other background. This could be a time-consuming process to do correctly though.

* Re-shoot the photo and choose a different composition that does not include the foreground tree

* Use a selection and levels correction to bring down the luminosity of the foreground tree

* Shoot two shots -- one exposed for the foreground tree and one exposed for the deer sculptures and make a composite image in your editing software

* Bring all the levels down (using an adjustment layer or whatever your method) of the entire image and make the sculptures almost a silhouette

Thanks for the input David.

Yeah, I'm going to plan another go out there and try to either get the shot without that tree on the right, or shoot two shots to make a composite.

another option, cover up the light that is illuminating(blowing out) that tree. Not sure what you can do with the street lights in the background though....
