New waterfall location photos from trip #3 to Arkansas - 05-17-2010, 09:39 AM

Had a very productive weekend in Arkasas again hanging out with some fellow photographer friends from Arkansas. We had strong storms come through and the water was high for the falls. We shot both Sat. and Sun. On Sunday you could tell the water level was already lower which tells me most the waterfalls we are looking to shoot will be worthless unless it has just rained.

But we all were fighting keeping our lenses and cameras dry and clear.
Every other shot or so, I would look at the lens and it would be covered in mist.
Even with all the wet gear I had with me, the water and wetness was an issue to deal with.

Here are a few of my favorites.
Still have a lot of editing to do but I am pretty tired today.
Will post more later.

Those are stunning! Are they difficult to get to? In other words, does it take a mountain goat to climb into that area, or could an old lady laden with cameras get there without breaking something?

Thanks for the comments Martha and Joseph.

Martha, some are very easy but some you need a rope to get down too. It's a mixed bag.

You should get the book, Arkansas Waterfalls Guidebook by Tim Ernst.
It talks about the trail condition and directions for them. Pretty indepth description.

Out of these sets, Glory Hole was a bit of a hike.
Eden Falls was pretty easy is would not have been raining. It was slippery in a lot of spots.
You have the option here to continue up which is more difficult.

Triple Falls was the easiest. But you had to travel some dirt roads.

Ron
exif shows that they were all taken at 70mm (well, the few i spot checked anyway), so i'd assume 70-200mm lens?

exposure settings were f/9-f/10, at around 9-10 seconds

Thanks guys.
exif data is not correct since I set up a template to resize these and post them on my gallery and the net.

I used my 24 - 70mm L 2.8 lens for most shots.
Aperature ranges anywhere from f/8 to f/22
Sometimes 30 seconds, sometimes 4 seconds.
Not a lot to go on for you, but it depends on the light and how much of a blur I want on the water.
4 to 2 seconds is plenty to get the silky look with some texture to the water.
Most here were around 8 seconds. It was the most used time I had on this trip.

I also bracket all shots since sometimes the highlights in the water are blown out in the normal scenes exposure. I will then blend in the better water highlights when needed.
