Canyonlands - Mesa Arch Sunrise - 12-12-2010, 06:42 PM

These shots were taken in late September, 2010. The first shot was processed with a Lightroom plugin called Enfuse, and the 2nd shot was made from two exposures that I blended in CS5.

Comments & critiques are appreciated. This is my first time to post on the forum.

I was lucky and was able to travel to Moab, Utah twice in 2010. The first trip was in late April and the temps were around freezing each morning, but the good side was there were no other photogs in the area.

What I found in late September is there were WAY more people everywhere we went. We got to Mesa Arch around 6:00am which was 30 to 40 minutes before sunrise and found a lineup of photographers already there. Some had been there for 4 hours!

Here is a shot of the scene a litte bit later . . .

Great location, great light, and a great job of photography. A wonderful and very popular spot. A couple of winners for sure.

First of all, these are very beautiful. I love the lighting and colors that you captured. Now for my little nit-pick. The horizon in both are tilted about four degrees. If you have room to straighten and crop without losing key elements, I think that would take these from an "A" to an "A+".

That's my two cents, which won't buy you anything today.

Hey everyone - thank you for the super nice comments. I really enjoy the Moab area and hope to explore it a lot more. If you've never been I highly recommend it. Moab provides a great base for your trip whether you want easy access to excellent locations or if you want extended hiking excursions into the back country. Simply a fantastic area.

John - I'll take a look at some of my other shots to check the horizon . . . .offhand I think that is just the lay of the land, but like I will check my other shots. Thanks!
