Twilightscapes - Civil War Fort at night - 03-12-2011, 01:16 AM

Critique: NC:

Shot on the grounds of an old civil war fort in Oklahoma last weekend.

I didn't realize the critique thingy is on NC by default - please disregard. I love and welcome all comments!

I like #1 and #3.

#1 seems like a lot of light for the amount of stars but I like it.

Thanks Blake. Yes, #1 was lit by a big sodium vapor light camera right. I tried to work with it and use it a bit.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it!

I like them all, but especially number 1. The colors looks really good, not like a sodium lamp is the light source.

Thanks Jill, that's my favorite of the night too. The light was really yellow, so it sort of afforded me some room in the color editing area.. came out with a soft tone to it, which I liked.

Very good shots, but you gotta turn on the LENR next time - makes a HUGE difference.

Yeah, I haven't found it to be THAT big of a difference, honestly. And it's certainly not big enough of a difference to warrant doubling my exposure times. 8-)

I shoot many of my shots while trespassing, or in the middle of a busy road. I often have to "get in and back out" quickly.

I won't dispute that it makes a difference, it does, just not that much that it makes it valuable enough to me. I also don't get many complaints about noise, so in the end, it's a judgement call.

I wouldn't have thought that doubling a 30 second or so exposure would be that much of a pain, but if you're trespassing I guess every second counts.

You might not get a lot of complaints about noise, since all that noise can simply look like stars, which I suppose is desirable to some, but it drives me nuts on my shots and can really detract from the actual stars. But like you said, it's all a judgement call/etc. Keep up the good work!
