This past December was a great opportunity for photographers to get a photograph of the historic total lunar eclipse during a winter solstice. Last time that occurred was in 1638.
Some members of the
Houston Inner Loop Photo Club met at Crystal Beach in hopes of getting the Total Lunar Eclipse. We setup on the beach in an area called, "The Flats," where there was less light pollution. With the lunar eclipse occurring directly overhead, it was difficult to keep the moon in focus. Some of my photos were blown out on the bright side of the moon during the Umbral (I now realize I should have used spot metering to get a better exposure, and went for a slightly higher shutter speed since the moon and the earth are moving). It was fun! But the drive home at 4 a.m. was quite grueling. BUT I'm glad I did it.
