It is usually said that the "Third Time's the Charm"..... In my case, it was the second time.
Took a trip up to the Texas Hill Country again and came back with this after my first semi-failed attempt 6 months ago.

When you say hill country, can you be a little more specific? Been wanting to try this ever since Todd posted his tutorial.

Not sure what you mean by "How many frames stacked?" But here are the details.....


CAMERA: Canon 5D Mark II
LENS: Canon EF 24-70L f/2.8 Lens

WHITE BALANCE: Tungsten
ISO: 3200
SHUTTER: 30 seconds
APERTURE: f/2.8
TRIPOD: Manfrotto Neo Tec (National Geographic Special Edition Model) Tripod with a 488RC4 Ball Head

TIME: Started first exposure around 1am and ended around 6:30am using a Canon TC80N3 Timer Remote Control set to shoot an image once a minute.....

ACCESSORIES: 3 - 10lb. sandbags on each leg of the tripod. 6 hand warmers rubberbanded around the lens and camera to prevent dew throughout the night and early morning.....

The next new moon is May 3rd. However, the moon will set at 2:26A.M. tonight. You can always go out after that and then you won't have any moonlight to worry about.

Yep. I think the Milky Way does not come up til uber late too. Was somewhere around 3-4 AM when I was in Sonora a week ago. Pedernales Falls State Park has a nice spot for astro viewing. Go to the near end of the main road and take a left into the bird blind area. Behind the barn, there is a path for horse trails. That is where they have a nice clearing for star gazing.
