Upper Antelope Canyon, Page Arizona. - 06-17-2009, 12:00 AM

You can see the first part of my trip Here.

Today I went and saw Antelope Canyon. The girl at the front counter of the hotel I am at told me not to take the tour from an outfit in town.
She told me to go to the Reservation, and get a guide there, and that the tour would be better.
So in a moment so unlike me, I did what I was told.
I'm happy to say that I was pleased. I met up with Carol Bigthumb.
I'd link to her page, but it goes to a PDF, and those don't link well.
You can google her.

She took me into the Canyon, and gave me the Kings tour. :w00t:
Carol was happy to point out all of the different items to photograph.
There was a point where she had to run a couple of people back to the front gate, and she left me with another guide that works for her.
Again, they were great!

It was an overcast day, so there were not a lot of the light shafts to be seen.
Here are a couple of the photos that I got today.

Even though it was over cast, it is still beautiful. Great job.

Is there any climbing? I would love to go there, but since I have trouble walking...not sure if I can get there.

Nice series BTW!

Thanks Mike.
For Lower Antelope Canyon and for Rattlesnake Canyon there is climbing involved.

However, much to my surprise, Upper Antelope Canyon is completely flat.
No climbing whatsoever. Well, as flat as sand can get anyway.

A couple of the shots were with my 24-105, but it was a tad too long.
So most of my images in the canyon (and ALL of them in Rattlesnake Canyon) were with my 10-22.

My wife checked out my Smugmug page yesterday.

She says we are going to have to print some of these to hang in the house.

I have yet to see one of these canyon shots that was not wall worthy.
I drove by your house the other day and it looked like a kegger was going on ;-)

Ok, my turn.
Did you have to use a tripod to take these shots? Someone decided she wants to see the Grand Canyon and I might try to squeeze in Bryce and this hole in the ground. Now I think I should pick up a rental
28-300L??
I think I need the length because I live with a bunch of pansies

Yup. Tripod, Tripod, Tripod.

Unless you can hold your camera still for 20 seconds. :p

Why the long lens? There's nothing worth shooting that's far. Everything is wide angle kinda stuff.
I even used the 10-22 in the slot canyons.

Oh! Very important note. While I don't believe in UV filters under normal conditions, you MUST put one on for the Slot Canyons.
When the guides see a little bit of light, they start throwing sand in the air so you can see the light through the dust.

They asked "Do you want us to throw more sand?" People around me kept saying "Yes" and I kept saying "No! You're ruining people's cameras!"

And just after I said that, some lady with a P&S said that her lens wouldn't retract any more.

I used a whole can of compressed air to get the dust out of the barrel and the rings of my 10-22. I didn't have a filter on. :(

Do you have a good tripod? Or would you like to borrow mine? (don't make me regret that).
