Yellowstone Geyser Basin - 06-19-2011, 08:22 AM

Critique: CC:

Just got back from a great trip to the Grand tetons and Yellowstone National parks. Can't get over the colors present in the Geyser basin in Yellowstone (close to the Old Faithful Geyser area)

Milind, you're right, there really are some good colors especially in the first one. This is one place on our list of family trips to take before we get too old and before my son stops going on vacation with us. Thanks for sharing it.

I think you could strengthen that image and bring more attention to the lake & the colors by cropping it to more of a 2:1 aspect ratio. Keep the full width and all of the sky, but bring the bottom up to eliminate about the bottom 25% - - just below where the lake bed touches the left hand edge of the image. Now the blue-green of the lake and the yellow sulfur fill your full attention in the bottom third of the image.

I welcome comments on any picture I post... Thanks.

I like them all, Milind. You've got a great eye for color and scope.

Well done throughout.

Thanks, Ray, Leon, Fred Wes, Rob and jeff for your nice comments.

Wes, appreciate the cropping suggestion and I tried it out two ways as follows. Let me know which any of you like better.

Crop 1 - Kept the width as suggested

Crop 2 - Deleted some of the right side so that the yellow trail ends up at the bottom right corner of the picture

I liked Crop 2 variation, as we choose to focus more on the crater. At the same time like the bit of balance brought on the right side with the little stream.

All thoughts greatly appreciated

Milind, I like them both... I like the WA look of the full width image, and if that is the only one you had done I would have been pleased with it... but I think your crop off the right hand side is even better.
