I went out to Brazos Bend yesterday evening to shoot a few sunset images. This is my first attempt ever at HDR so please tell me what you think. Do the images look natural are they over done so on anything that comes to mind please tell me. i only used the trial version of photomatix cause i wasnt sure i would like HDR or not but i do so i think i will go ahead and buy it.

These don't look overprocessed to me. These might be test shots, but I don't think the lighting and subject matter in these frames lend themselves to HDR processing.

Did you use the "details enhancer" or the "tone mapping" feature of Photomatix?

I used detail enhancer because i was reading the tutorial and it said that detail enhancer would give it a more natural look

I don't want to speak for another comment, but I think what David means is there doesn't appear to be that much difference in dynamic range to start with that would require using HDR. Maybe just some good processing in Photoshop or Lightroom would bring out the same results here.

With that said, the scene if overexposed in the original shot would certainly lend itself to HDR. You have kept "the HDR look" to a minimum. I can also see the scene as you probably did and feel comfortable with the representation as being fairly accurate to your memory of the event.

Not all HDR shots are rusted out trucks and such. Anywhere the camera sensor cannot truly capture the full dynamic range of a given scene is a candidate for HDR. Only you know what the original details were.

Or I could be totally wrong in my assessment...

This is exactly what I meant, I guess I didn't explain my thoughts very well, ha.
