Lightning at the Garden of the Gods - 07-13-2011, 01:20 PM

Critique: CC:

My family and went out to the Gardens a few days ago while a storm was moving in. The odd part about it was the sky was split in half. One side of the sky sunny the other dark and gloomy. Seems that Colorado can't make up it's mind! I was hell bent on any attempt to nail a lightning strike during daylight hours and learned some good lessons when using a CP.

Camera: Canon 1D mark III
Lens: Canon 28-70mm F/2.8L
Filter: Nikon Circular Polar II 77mm
Shutter Speed: 1 second
Aperture: F/22.0
Focal Length: 28 mm
ISO Speed: 100

Yep, you saw that right! I used a Nikon CP on a Canon!

Love it. I really need to stop there next time I visit the inlaws.

Cool! Last trip there we hit Royal Gorge and San Isabelle. They live in Pueblo West.

Very nice capture! The split sky is common as the storms roll in from over the mountains. I love Colorado!

Beautiful. I went there once when I was about 18. Seven Falls was pretty cool too.

Garden of the Gods is magic. Great Sand Dunes isn't too shappy or far away either.

Nice shot. Love the Garden of the Gods. Your photo brings back memories of living there several years back--I'll bet it was taken in the 3:30 to 5:00 PM time frame. Seemed like there was always a thunderstorm that rolled through about that time, leaving a nice, cool, crisp smelling evening in its wake.

I see you're from Fort Carson; we lived just north of the Fort on Minden Circle, above B street. Sure miss it there!
