Montreux Sunset... - 07-15-2011, 02:07 PM

Critique: CC:

These pictures were taken in Montreux, Switzerland at the end of last month, while on vacation... I was there to photograph Chateau the Chillon but there were too many clouds behind it and they hid the mountains in the background which, I consider, are important to the composition... so I turned around 180 degrees and this is what was happening... amazing light show!

I am torn between the wide exposure and the tighter one.. help me choose! I can see some blending halos in the wider one and I will correct them and reprocess the image later...

Let me know what you think... all opinions/comments are welcome! Thanks...

Im leaning towards the wide one, both are really good, just like to wider perspective.

I like the second one best; it's like the Earth is making a rainbow out of itself with the shifting of colors from a light greenish hue to blue then red.

Very nice. I may have to ban you for making the rest of us look bad. (only kidding about the banning of course) haha

My only nitpick would be to cut that little piece of tree off the right side on #1.

I like the water in #1 better than #2, but overall I like #2 better.

I for sure, like the first one. The colors on both are phenomenal! Beautiful capture!

Hmm, they both have merits so I'm not really sure. In the wider view I like the relationship of the clouds to the mountains, but in the foreground the flowers sort of get lost amount the dirt and rocks. The second shot has a better foreground (and better processing - there's a very slight halo on the upper right rocks, but not nearly as bad as the first). I wonder if a slightly lower camera position might have worked to shorten the gap between near and far shores.

Interesting comments, Jeff... I agree, processing is horrible! especially the halos... For some reason I am having trouble with blending these days... I never had trouble with pictures from my 40D but with 7D, I consistently have issues with blending...

I am starting to read the tutorial here: Tony Kuyper Photography hopefully, that will help...

For positioning the camera lower may have helped... I had it at the lowest collapsed legs but I could have gone lower... did not occur to me... :)

Thanks for the feedback!

I actually like the 1st one more, for me the slight Halo is not that distracting!
