Sawtooth mountain morning shots - 08-01-2011, 08:19 AM

Critique: NC:

Here are a few first light scenes from the Idaho trip.

This was my last shot, the last day I was there. unfortunately, it gave me the best skies. Most mornings were cloudless and boring.

I had one little cloud on this morning.

This is Hell Roaring Lake. We hiked in with camping and camera gear 5 miles. Misquitoes were really bad. I bathed in repellant. Took sunset, night time and sunrise shots from here. One of my favorite spots.

This was my first morning shot. It's a marsh area behind Stanley Lake. I waded out thigh deep into the freezing water and stood motionless for 30 minutes. I used waders....but that only helped after a while. Was so cold it was painfull. If I moved at all, it would cause ripples in the water. I got up between 4:30 and 5 to make it here and get ready for this shot.

Very nice images, Keith - I like the compositions and the early morning colors.

Kieth, each of these has something great going for it, I think... the reflection (both color & shape) of the mountains in the clouds in the first, The fences as foreground against the mountains in the 2nd, the movement of the water in the 3rd, and the entire atmospheric look of the last one. It looks like a very successful outing.

I welcome comments on any picture I post... Thanks.

Thanks John and Westley, it was one of the more tougher trips. Lots of driving. Took me over 30 hours to get back from Dallas. Lots of the initial planning went out the window and I felt like I was scrambling it seems everyday to make the nexts days shooting decisions.

Nice work, I particularly like the last two.
