Lake Tahoe at Sunset, Golden Gate Bridge - 08-01-2011, 02:52 PM

Critique: CC:

A few more from our Lake Tahoe/Napa Valley/San Francisco trip last week. Interested in CC on these. Don't know much about landscapes but would like to start studying more. This wasn't a photography trip, so I did the best I could with the sun direct overhead and the usual touristy photo locales. :) (Hubby wasn't too interested in getting up before dawn on vacay to go shooting!)

1. Lake Tahoe at sunset. Probably my favorite landscape shot from the trip. Taken from the top deck of a yacht during a sunset cocktail cruise. I can't believe I got the horizon somewhat straight. :)

2. Golden Gate Bridge, I'm not sure which direction but this is facing but it's from the overlook on the way in from Napa.

3. Another view of Golden Gate from the Fisherman's Wharf.

The fog seems to look much more dramatic in b/w. :) C&C welcome and appreciated...

Amanda, I think that #1 is very striking, especially as simple as it is - - perhaps that is part of it's strength... just an orange & black silhouette. I think, however, that the trees are very imposing on the right and force the left side of the picture to seem closed off - - almost like there is no place for the water to go... I think if you cropped out the last tree on the right and then lowered the top edge and raised up the bottom edge, each just a bit, to maintain the aspect ratio, then the balance is there and it doesn't look like the right dominates so heavily.

I welcome comments on any picture I post... Thanks.

Nicely done on all three. Great silhouettes on #1 and I do really dig the B&W on #3.

I think my favorite is #2. Nothing says San Fransisco like morning fog...
