Texas City Dike scenics - 09-12-2011, 07:20 PM

Critique: CC:

I have not been out to photograph much lately and I decide to go out to the dike to photograph at sunrise.

Let me know what you think,

and thanks for looking and commenting,

Scott

I think this pelican found a great spot to watch the sun rise.

I also like the first one. Is that really the Bolivar lighthouse?

I really like the 1st shot.

I wish there was just one bird silhouette in the 2nd shot....or maybe it's a two headed bird silhouette?
If that's the case I love it!

Really like the first one. Just my thought, maybe crop some of the water at the bottom out. Really doesnt add much to the shot, but like I said, just my though.
Great colors and subject.

That is the Bolivar Lighthouse in the first image.

Jake - I tried to convince the second pelican to fly away for the shot, but it just refused and I am too lazy to clone it out!

All - thanks for the comments!

Man was I confused until i re-read it to see sunRISE....I have a lot of shots of sunsets there with various marker towers in the foreground and pelicans galore roosting; I love this spot. I really like the perspective of morning you have here. (sunsets can be tricky as you are shooting towards the refineries and that can and does make folks a bit nervous....that's another story).

Not sure how much it would work on sunrise shots but for sunsets I typically underexpose them a bunch to keep the sun from losing too much shape; the graduation of the highlight makes that one work better for me over the indistinctiveness of #1.
