Mack and June Lakes (Sierra Nevada Mtns) - 11-07-2011, 10:00 PM

Critique: CC:

Went to Bishop and Mammoth Lakes last month for some hiking and photography. Not a great year for fall color there, but the weather was mild and the snow from the previous week's storm made for some nice photo potential (although it also limited some of our hiking options).

Here are the first two I've finished so far. C&C Welcome as always, click any image for gallery page with exif/lens info.

Mack Lake, Little Lakes Valley, John Muir Wilderness

June Lake, Inyo National Forest

Wow, I especially love the first one! Those white-capped mountains with the reflection just set it off.

Love the first one. Tack-sharp and I love the composition. Since you're from Houston, I'd love to have coffee sometime and get some pointers to get more "bang for my buck" photo wise on my next family visit to Northern California.

Jeff, you always excell at these type of photos, but these 2 are awesomely outstanding!!!
Beautiful work & I also like nbr 1 the best, but just barely!
The foreground & the balance of the background(Mtns) is perfect.

I kept skipping this one because I wanted to have the time to write out a thoughtful response. That didn't work.

Beautiful. I really love the light glancing off the peaks in the first photo, along with the vertical composition. The foreground and the angle really gives it remarkable depth. Excellent timing.

Pamela - Thanks!

Jim - Thanks. There are some semi-regular meet-n-greet type get-togethers for forum members in the W/NW part of town, though I'm not sure when the next one is.

Leon - Thanks for the kind words.

Keith - thanks for looking, I appreciate the feedback.

Great shots Jeff. I've tried twice to get to these spots. But snow storms kicked my butt since I went too late on one trip, and too early in the spring for the first trip.

Fred - Thanks for looking.

Keith - Thanks. Little Lakes Valley was under quite a bit of snow at the beginning of our trip, but by the end of the week warmer temps had melted enough snow that I could at least get part way down the trail our last morning.
