Big Bend Landscape & Night Photography Workshop - 11-12-2011, 12:00 AM

Critique: CC:

I recently attended TJ Avery's workshop in Big Bend. The workshop was absolutely great - - I highly recommend it to people wanting to improve their landscape photography skills. I went with the expectation of working on improving my ability to see and compose the "big vista" type of landscape and get beyond the intimate detail stuff I usually shoot. While I was not 100% successful in everything I tried, I do feel more comfortable stretching the boundaries of the image frame I usually have.

After the workshop, I stayed on with TJ and we camped in the park (Grapevine Hills) and did several more days of shooting. I have begun posting images in my gallery and at Micheal's (iCe) recommendation, will put a few here... for your viewing & comments. Thanks for looking.

I absolutely love all three of these. The lines of #2 pull you right in to the shot

My favorite would be the first shot. My eyes follow a path straight to the top of the cliff.

Thank you Michael, Mark, Tom & Leon for the kind words and for taking the time to look. I had a great time shooting them and it is nice that other people enjoy them as well.

I really enjoy images that have some sense of movement or mystery about them - - that try to take you someplace beyond what you can actually see and I thought these 3 captured that. I'm still working on the grand vistas and have a few of them on my gallery from this trip and hope to get there with my shots, someday, like some of the other landscape shooters here.

Very nice shots. I missed my trip to the Bend this year due to work commitments. Maybe a quick late fall or early winter visit would be in order. Grapevine hills is a great place. Did you get up to the rock?

Nice gallery too.

Thanks, Paul.

Ken, we did not hike up to the rock - - in fact, we spent very little time in the Grapevine Hills area except to sleep. We chose it because it was central to the other places we wanted to visit & shoot. Thanks for looking at the gallery - - I continue to work on and replace pictures there as I get feedback.
