Drought No 9 - 11-14-2011, 08:46 PM

Critique: NC:

Shot early morning on 11/12.
This is a small creek not far from the Medina River. The water was less than a foot deep which let the pebbles on the creek bottom combine with the reflections to create an interesting texture.
Sorry about the size of this image. It lost too much detail at smaller sizes.

Thanks for the kind words. The more I look at the image the more wish I'd been able to simplify the elements somewhat.

Nice, peaceful. I would have been tempted to CPL out the reflection but it would have hurt the photo I think. The reflections add to it.

Ken, I think this is a very inviting image. I really like the way the trees wrap around the bend in the shore on the left side - - it almost looks like a painting there - - composed intentionally to look that way rather than occurring naturally. I think the reflection is a great element of interest as well. Even the fallen log in the water gives your eye something you have to go around in order to follow the water to the back.

The interesting thing is that it does not say "drought" - - in fact, it looks like it should be "in spite of drought." I know that the image could not look quite like this, specifically the reflection, if it were not for the drought but it is not a drought picture, to me. But that does not mean that I do not really like it!

I welcome comments on any picture I post... Thanks.

Yes. That is a most interesting idea. I think the texture of the pebbles in the creek bed would work well. Certainly the character of the image would be changed if the reflections were gone. Might give that a try.
