Ken that white stuff is what freezing fog does to things, it latches on to everything, and in this case the tree branches, pine needles, grass etc. It kind of gives the effect of using an IR filter

I believe the term is Hoar Frost.

Excellent. My favorites are number three and the last one. All remind me of North Jersey winters on Garrett Mountain during the 40s.

When image searching one much use Hoar Frost From Freezing Fog to see other images, not Hoar Frost. But yes your right spot on with what it is.
