Where will we go? - 01-17-2012, 08:16 AM

Critique: NC:

After a 2.5 mile hike to the back-side of Enchanted Rock (central Texas) with my son's Boy Scout troop late last Friday evening we arrived at our campsite. This was my first and last shot for the night. It was about 11pm and I was carrying 4 liters of water, two DSLRs, 3 lenses, tent, bag, and all the rest of the stuff needed for primitive camping. My backpack was roughly twice the weight it should have been.

This is a 20 second exposure at f/2.8 and ISO 1600. Taken with a Canon 5D Mark II and the Samyang 14/2.8 UMC lens.

It was amazing! The best part was about a day and a half later when my son's boy scout troop gave their "Scout's Own Service" and the prayer delivered really struck a chord with me. The prayer is mentioned in the flickr comments. The next night, after everyone had already gone to bed I did a milky way time lapse about 1/2 mile from the camp site. It felt good to be out there under the stars alone.

Mark Murray of Austin's KVUE news aired this photo last night, but I missed it. Thanks everyone for the comments.

Thanks, the light is from a 2/3rds waning moon at my back. The moon was about 15 minutes in rise from the east.
