This is a discussion on Black and White Sunset within the Landscapes forums, part of the Showcase category; I'd love some feedback on these recent shots I took during a drive....

Definitely different. I like the industrial setting for #2. Makes it kind of foreboding. I also like the power lines on #3 a lot but I might have gone with a tighter crop, although that would have cut off come of the dark extreme of the tonal range. Tough call.

I really like number 2. The lighting complements the subject very well. The other two seem too dark to me on first reflection. Sometimes photos with challenging lighting take awhile for me to fully absorb.

Awesome feedback, thanks! I think I actually cropped #3 tighter at first, but wanted a little more room up top to balance the silhouettes, maybe it should come in a little more.

Are these dark to the point of distraction?

processing wise, I kind of like.

#3 is actually my favorite. I think shilouttes should be clean (nothing else behind them) and you should be able to tell what it is. this, in a simple form, we can see what is on the horizon.

I don't like #2 b/c of the blob in the middle of the image with things coming out of it. in other words, you've removed detail from too much of the image for me to really understand what is going on. sure, it is industrial, but my eye is led down into the abyss of no detail.

#1 is interesting, it seems to have something running along the horizon behind all the trees however.
