Back in highschool we'd go swim the Pedernales. The slides would be slippery with green moss and the chute. WOW, that was an amazing ride. All of the water coming down the river would be forced into a chute about 10 feet wide and maybe 50 foot long. The water would force you through the chute at what seemed like 90 miles an hour, smashing you into the walls before spitting you out into the pool at the end.

When the water was slow, you could float in under the sandstone and find hidden caves extending back into the rocks.

Just had to be aware of flash floods that could change the sedate float into a raging torrent in minutes. The park service banned swimming after too many incidents.
