Arrow interesting finding... - 01-24-2007, 01:43 PM

Something different from me this time... Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, around the last period of his life had this villa built so he could rest on the seaside for health reasons, while still being close enough to Istanbul. The villa, built by architect Seyifi Arikan in 1935, has been used after Ataturk by subsequent presidents of the Turkish Republic and is now open to the public as a museum; however, being slightly out of Istanbul and of the tourist routes, according to the guardian there aren't many visitors coming around: in 6+ years of being living here in Istanbul, this is the first time I hear about it and check it out! Besides having designed the building, all furnitures, lamps and fittings have been custom designed by architect Arikan especially for it. Here a little tour inside the villa:

- outside

- inside

- lamps & details

all shot with the trusty D2x and, mostly, the 17-35 f2.8; all shots handheld, and without flash due to museum regulations. Hope you enjoyed, C&C as always are most appreciated.

Thank you Bill! Indeed quite forward for 1935 - a good & modern architect and a forward-thinking politician together can do wonders

Hello Ken, thank you very much for viewing and commenting the house's details are all so well designed that it's a photographer's heaven if one likes that sort of shooting... as I do

You have a great eye for detail. And a steady hand if they are all handheld. Thanks for sharing.
