to HFM
I just finished my 1st semester of Grad School (Mechanical Engineering, not photography..ha)
nice meeting you :-)
I really don't know much about the traditions until I hear from some seniors, I think I need some time to get to know more.

to Debbi,
Now....I know where you're from...ha....:-D

From the results of 1 & 2, I find it's really hard to manage the barrel distortion in terms of the wide angle lenses (I used Nikkor 12-24mm) .You really can't check how much it distorted until you upload the pictures to your computer and check with a large monitor.

I wonder how you guys deal with distortions?

From what I have read about the 12-24 Nikkor Lens, the barrel distortion can be pretty extreme when shooting at 12mm. The reviews I have read say that if you keep the lens above 14mm then the problem goes away significantly. I do not own that lens (I do all of my wide angle stuff with a 14mm F2.8 prime), so all I can tell you is what I have read. The first picture looks like it has more BD than the 2nd one - in fact it is not noticeable enough in the 2nd to be displeasing at all. It is well done.

As for the traditions - study them...and then factor them into your compositions. Fellow Aggies will get it...and they will appreciate your work because they will undestand the story behnd the picture without you having to say a thing...If you get it right! ::): . I have seen some really good work from a couple of your fellow students (Daniel Bates comes immediately to mind...there are a couple of others, but I am drawing a blank, so my apologies to all of them) that makes me think about my days on the campus. I wish that I had started developing my skills with a camera early enough to have practiced more when I was on campus - but that was a different time. Keep up the good work!

Yeah, my greatest joy every year is watching the Longhorn/Aggie game while I am putting up the Christmas Tree - well, until this last year

Very nice images! My favorite is the second one. Sunset adds a very nice effect to the memorial. I took some photos a couple of years ago when I first got my dSLR and shot them all in ISO 1600 b/c I wasn't paying attention. I plan to go back sometime in the fall.

#1 and #2 are especially beautiful!

I want to go out to the Memorial next semester, though I doubt I'll be able to top the shots of it I've seen recently.
