No, we rented a travel trailer in the DFW area and pulled it up there. We are actually looking into buying a 5th wheel so we thought it would be an opportunity to see what we really liked and didn't. Since we were able to park it, we still had the truck for transportation. You don't want to know about fuel economy. Seriously, we spent approximately 1K on fuel for the entire trip but it was so much better than staying in a hotel IMHO and the location couldn't have been better for seeing both parks.

Sure, Bill, thanks. It's another 8 weeks until we leave, so perhaps we can get together between now and then and if you don't mind let me try it out for a couple of quick shots. I'd appreciate it.

No problem! I live up north, I try and get out for a while (usually Round Rock Memorial Park) at least Sunday mornings for a while. PM or email (wbunton at buntonstudios dot com) and we can set something up.

I may be out in that neck of the woods at the same time coming back from Reno area, will have to see how the trip is going if I swing up to Jellystone or not-have not been up there in maybe 9-10 years. Also don't pass up shooting how the forest is recovering from the huge wildfires a decade or so ago, they came real close to burning down the Old Faithful Lodge that year.

Also don't forget to go to the Lone Star and Steamboat Geysers-Lone Star is active Steamboat is a rare eruption but worth seeing anyways. Polarizers can come into great use also.

Prime time for me to go up there is late winter early spring when the temp is near freezing or below-makes all the thermals look neater.

Don't miss these - 07-15-2007, 08:56 AM

We were in Yellowstone and GT a few years ago in Sept. Going back this Sept. 16th-22th.
Can't wait!

Some of our favorites in Yellowstone were the elk in rut at Mammoth Hot Springs, the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, and the wolves in Lamar.

All of the Tetons are drop dead gorgeous. Really enjoyed sunrise at Oxbow Bend (worth the effort) and a float trip down the Snake River. Don't miss the resturant and bar at Signal Mountain Lodge. Great views, good food, and some colorful locals.

Have a great trip!!

Looks like a great place, but they only have a one niter available while we're in the vicinity. We've found a couple of places (3 nites in Jackson Hole and 3 nites in West Yellowstone) and we're leaving the last nite open (hope that isn't a mistake, since it is a Friday nite) to see where we want to spend our last nite after traveling around between the Tetons and Yellowstone.

Wow, that's an awesome location. A bit pricey compared to some of the alternatives in Jackson, but I think it would be worth it to cut out the extra driving especially before sunrise.

Stay in The Park at The Old Faithful Inn. Not too expensive, and worth the experience. But book asap if you still can. If only passing thru, eat there and photograph the lobby. That kind of building would never be built again thanks to our evironmental-correctness. Stay at the Lake Yellowstone Inn as a fall back if possible. Tons of history in those walls.

Nothing available for early to mid September. Have already checked. But do plan on eating at Old Faithful Inn and snapping the shutter one or two times while there.

Bet it is more than 2! Please share some close ups of the fireplace and the staircase posts and railings. If you have a wide angle - rock on with some existing light! And enjoy the dining. I hope they are as friendly and proud to be there as they were when we we there! Tell your waiter/waitress that some old Texan sent ya to say "Howdy, and loved your service to us when we were there!". Betcha get great service that way.

If you want to stay in Jackson I would recommend the cowboy village they are log cabins very nice and in the middle of everything. There is wildlife every where. We spent a lot of time in the Gros Ventre park and the Elk refuge. Have a great time. We went in the winter and went in to Yellowstone in the van with the tracks on it. I would love to go back during one of the other seasons. here is the link to the cowboy village they have may different locations through out the town.http://www.townsquareinns.com/cowboy-village/

yes its a little pricey and the cabin are smallish but very clean, and the folks running the place are super people, their family built the barns that everyone photographs. your about 200 yards from the south barn.

last year (last week of Sept) we stayed one night in Jackson ,one at the west and one at the north entrance, just drove in looking for vacancy signs and had several to choose from almost everywhere we went but the prices were all 100+ then finished out at Moulton cabins, if your interested they have a list in case of cancellations, thats how we got there last year. going back the same time this year but may have a trailer to pull so I'm thinking Gos Ventre campground. this is the cabin we stayed in very early one morning
