That alignment was a catch. Won't happen to often or for to long. Did you stumble on that, or plan it in advance? It is very nice.

Great shot! But i was thinking the same thing, what is the luck you could just "catch" that? Thats what its all about i guess.

It's all about being in the right spot at the right time I guess, and probably some luck to have the sun set in that exact spot. I was just driving by, but knew I could position myself so the sun would shine through. I took multiple exsposures to get what I wanted light wise, then waited about 5 minutes for the sun to shine through and started firing away. ISO 100, f/16, 1/30 on a Bogen Manfrotto tripod, Nikon D200 and Nikkor 17-55 2.8 with a Cokin CPL. I really wanted the front of the hay to be clearly visible as well, which was impossible with the backlighting from the sun, so I setup a SB-800 on a light stand and adjusted the flash to my liking. I think it gave the photo a nice touch. The only thing I'm a litle disappointed with is the cloud pattern on the left was really huge, and at first directly over the barn. I could PS them back in but I like keeping my landscapes shots as I shot them. Thanks for the nice coments. The best advice I can give for catches like this is to always have your gear with you and always be looking at your surroundings. Beauty is everywhere, we just get used to seeing the same things over and over and begin to overlook things. Train your eye. Thanks again.

The clouds on the left actually add to the picture for me. You start on the left with the clouds, then the sunlight draws your eyes to the center and then you notice the bale of hay. I makes for a nice left to right eyepath across the image. Excellent capture.

Love this shot, Bryan! Looks like that hay bale has been sitting in the field too long.
