As I am preparing for my next trip to Big Bend next month. I looked through some of the images of my trip there this spring. Thought I'd share one. C&C always appreciated. Walt

What movie was this built for?

Very nice. Works well in BW.

Where is this in Big Bend? I've never seen this photographed before.

It is the 'Contrabando' movie set. It is on the River Road between Terlingua and Persidio a few miles past Lajitas. It is right on the Rio Grande and there are 5 or 6 buildings there most in pretty good shape. It is part of the State Park system.

Yes, it is in Big Bend Ranch State Park. Big Bend National Park's "little" brother. Nice shot!

Sorry for the delayed response, but Bob is correct. Great place to do some portrait work also.

I just returned from BiBe today and found out that one of the buildings was destroyed in the flood and the church was still with water in it. (that was tuesday 14th) 170 is closed west of Lajitas, but you can get to "Contrabando" if you want.
The floods did a lot of damage to the river areas of the park, but they are doing a really good job of getting things cleaned up. The water has gone back down to just below flood stage, but the Maxwell road past Costolon to Santa Elena Canyon is washed out(You could get to the Costolon area, no problem).
Old Maverick road was in great shape and no problem using it to get to the Canyon overlook, but you could not get to the trail.
Hopefully by the time you go things will be back more to normal.-Good luck & good shooting!

Thanks Leon. Looking forward to you pics. I'm planning on heading down Nov. 20-25, so hopefully will be ok.

Updated... I was there over Spring Break 2010 in March and the buildings are in sad shape. Lots of sand still in the buildings and the stucco from the church is gone from about 8 feet down to the ground. Some of the higher buildings are okay, but still in bad shape.

Sweet Walt...neat picture...is there enough of the photo to maybe place the church a little off center in the photo but still keep the cross in the 'V' shape of the hills in the background...just a suggestion...

Ron

Here is an updated photo from March 16, 2010. Sad to see it this way. I wish mine was as good as Walt's!
