When were you up there and for how many days? Did you go into Teton also?
Thinking of going up next month for about a week.

Geeeeeeeeeze, I'm always envious of the summer photos from this part of the world. These make me envious and jealous. Where did you stay? How did you get around? Summer in the Greater Yellowstone area is great. Winter looks to be even better.

Really great, John.
For someone going to Yellowstone what lenses would you recommend?
Do you always need something more than 200mm?
Tks. | | | |

Awesome! I was there in the summer, but this makes me want to even more go in the winter. Did you go solo or through a group?

We did not stay long though, one there was a park ranger that ran use and the wolf off, and you really should not stay long around the wolf so they dont get used to the car, they need to be scared so they don't get hit. The rangers and wolf researchers have done some stuff to make the wolfs not like the roads.

Thinking of going up next month for about a week. | Our last day was 2 days ago and we stayed for 11 days. We did not go to the Tetons, just lamar and old faithful area. We were on a photo tour that used snow coaches to get us into the park. You can drive to Lamar.

Tks. | You really need a 500mm. I used a Sigma 50-500, you REALLY need the reach. Plus with the 500 you can get some amazing landscapes. I am going to save all my pennies and get the 200-400 some day, with a 2x converter that will be perfect.

Thank you John. I saw the wolves in the Lamar Valley a couple of times, but never close enough for a 200mm shot. Last time I had a 300mm/2.8 plus a 2x TC plus a 1.4x Tc on a D300, and the wolf eating from a carcass was still small in the frame.
For Dennis, I agree with John, you need the longest lens you have, and then some. 400mm is not enough most of the times. 600 will do. I used everything from 12mm to 300mm with 2xTC. I drool over the 200-400, too. Someday...

Excellent series, I really enjoyed not only the wildife images but also the winter-scapes. Looks a little too cold for a wus like me though, I think I'll stick to summer visits. :)
