Stop it ya'll...you're tempting me even more!

Who's lousy idea was to have sponsors - with great products - to tempt us mere mortals?

But just look at the great shots she took with the lensbaby...aren't they awesome, don't you just got to have one? Think about the great shots YOU could take! (sorry....lol)

But it is quirky, fun commercialism that makes your camera look like it lost a fight with a vacuum cleaner. Something to find solace in there.

Argh....you're driving me nuts!

What is the "focal length" on this baby (pun intended!) Is it 50mm? To change the aperture, do you have to remove the lens and insert the "discs" from the back? How does that work?

LoungeLizard - yes and no. it's about 50mm and the apertures sit inside the lens by way of magnetic force. i just kind of pop mine against my palm and the aperture falls out. (lensbaby HQ, i don't know that this is the proper method of disengaging the aperture.... )

Hi LoungeLizard,

The focal length is about 50mm. Most digital backs have a magnification factor that makes the effective focal length about 75 mm to 80mm. If you want to go wider or longer than that, the Lensbabies have 37mm threads on the front of the lens that allow you to screw on wide angle or telephoto conversion lenses.

To answer your question about the apertures, I'll quote a post from the Differences between LB Versions thread:

Both the Original and Lensbaby 2.0 use a disk system of apertures in the front of the lens. The Original Lensbaby holds the disks in place with a rubber gasket. To change apertures, you remove the rubber gasket, tip out the aperture disk and drop a new one in, and then put the gasket back in place. With Lensbaby 2.0, the apertures are a metalicized plastic, and a shielded magnetic field inside the lens holds the disks in place so that they float right above the optic. You change the apertures by lifting the disk out with a complimentary Lens Pen and then just drop the new disk into the front of the lens and it snaps into place.

The levitating magnetic disks are funky but they work very well. My partner Craig pops em out too.

Sam
