Thumbs up Great Bendy!!! - 04-15-2006, 07:08 PM

Wow Gordon -- This photo is the best one I have seen you post. The energy and the joy are abundant. The selective focus works so well here -- the woman in yellow just seems suspended in the air. I also love how the person on the right is mostly blurred out -- it emphasizes her rush into the photo, The one thing I'd look at is the color -- the skin tones look a little blue on my monitor. This is actually one of my favorite Lensbaby shots I've seen so far.

Thanks - the colour is actually pretty deliberate. I'm working on a series of images around Austin. All are with a Lensbaby and a semi-cross processed and tungsten feel. In this case the yellow top was picked to contrast well with the complimentary colour blue.

If it works or not - well that's up to the viewer - but at least it was intentional :)

Progress so far

Was a lot of fun shooting this, this morning - the water is cold (68F) but a classic Austin location and a great place to swim...

The more I play with this lens, the more ideas I'm getting about how to use it effectively. A lot of fun all round.

Well, there is most definitely something about this photo that I really like. The tungsten feel may be very much part of what has grabbed my eyes. Maybe you've got this one completely right. The sweet spot is perfect then, for what you intended with your color scheme, which is to make that yellow top so compelling.

I'm gonna have to think about it, which is a very good thing!

Thanks for the comments Sam - I appreciate hearing your point of view.
Interestingly I forgot the little collection of aperture rings that morning, so had to shoot wide open. I was originally planning to have a bit more DoF, but I actually like how it worked out. The lack of detail in the face depersonalises it a bit, while you can still see how much fun the person is having from the big grin.

I like that step away from a literal view that the LB can give.

Yes -- I like how both faces are blurred out. Makes it more universal. I'm having trouble pulling up the three additional posts. I'm liking how these Austin images work together. Nice story. Looking forward to seeing more!
