Photogenic Professional Lighting slated to release Portable Battery System - 07-08-2009, 11:06 AM

Just got off the phone with Photogenic Professional Lighting and was told that they have been testing a new Portable Battery operated system (just like the Vagabond & Tronix Explorer) that will work with their Digital and Analog type monolights. I know that they're a couple of years behind on this but I'm very excited to see what they'll come up with. They are currently field testing several prototypes and it has two outlets for a couple of monolights and be able to produce approx. 300 1000ws Full Power Flashes or 600 500ws Full Power Flashes. It's predicted to hit the market in the winter... no estimated price yet.
Although I have an Explorer XT, I seem to be having some issues with it, and service is in Taiwan. Supposely, I should be getting approx. 400 500ws Full Power Flashes and I'm getting right under 100. I've contacted them and they took almost a week to get back to me (via e-mai) and they asked me to run a few simple test and report back to them. Now we'll see how long it will take for another response and what repair solution they'll offer. I purchased the unit new from them a little over a year ago and only used it a dozen times or so. It works wonderfully and the recycle is awesome, but after reading several reviews regarding their power output and others testing them with great success, I decided to do a power test and learned that mine was not up to par. I rarely use it for more than 50 flashes so it's never been an issue before. But, I want and plan to start using it more and just want the best output from the unit. So we'll see.....

I heard an abbreviated (why couldn't they have chosen a shorter word?) of this same info. And so we will see...

Batteries are a finicky thing, use them to much and they wear out quickly. Don't use them enough and they wont hold a charge for long. Your problem could be one of those, I know on the old AB forums there were lots of folks that weren't properly using and charging the Vagabonds and there batteries failed quickly.
