Reflector referral? - 07-17-2009, 04:09 PM

I am looking for a reflector that I can use outside, without an assistant. Does anyone have one that they use/like? Or have suggestions? Right now, I am using a round one without a stand, and it's not working very well...

Thanks for your input!

These are the best outdoor reflectors I have used. I can't afford them, but you'll get a good idea of how you might make your own.

I will second on Tom's rec. Those things are unbelievably cool and awesome, but mucho expensive.

If you are in a place without too much wind, the reflector and arm that alien bees sells is pretty cool. Can work in a pinch.

I use the Fotodiox 60" in reflector holder arm. Its pretty simple but the wind will still blow it over without a sandbag or some other kind of weight. Works good though. It of course holds smaller ones too.

I am pretty sure that is the exact one that you can get from alienbees.

even if you have it sandbagged, I find that the torque from a stiff breeze will turn the arm on whatever it is mounted to. It will work, but not during a stiff breeze. Then again, there are a lot of things that won't stand up well to a stiff breeze, so it is a viable solution some of the time

if anyone we shoot for has extra arms (e.g. the mother comes along), they are holding the reflector.

those sunbounces are cool, it would be pretty easy to make one if I could just find the fabric to put over it. the frame would be cake to make!!!
