Mike, thanks for the reply. It isnt an issue with me, and I was assuming I had to use the telephone cord to control the Bees, but since I make an ass out of myself so often, I thought I would ask this time :)
Thanks for all the info, I want mine NOW. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

Thanks! | Photogenic uses cat 5 jack instead of phone jack so they are different. You will probably have to get a set specific to your lights and not be able to use them interchangeably with the total lighting control feature.

I really like that Paul C. Buff went with RJ11 phone cord. Its cheap and easy to find. It really shows his commitment to making a good product, as opposed to being greedy and making something weird and proprietary like alot of companies do.

Have you ever checked your Computer Internet Cable? | I didnt say it was proprietary. I wasnt referring to the cat5 cable. Yes, as a matter of fact I have looked at my computer, and many many others. Im a Network Engineer and Server Administrator for one of the largest construction outfits in houston.
I was simply stating how I liked the fact that he uses RJ11. I didnt intimate any more than that. So quick to make others look foolish, are we?

Don't want to start a fight or argument here like others do.
This is a very informative Thread.

Just a quick note on High Speed Sync:
Tonight in our hotel room in Vegas I placed a RadioPopper Jrx receiver on an alienbee 800 and an RadioPopper Jrx Transmitter on our Canon G10 and guess what....
HIGH SPEED SYNC
all the way up to 1/2000 of a second at f/2.8
So now you can get a nice shallow depth of field with off camera flash with or without your Canon Speedlites using the new RP JRx units.
Pretty cool at least for fun toys.
I also feel this will work with ANY point and shoot with an electronic shutter and active hoteshoe. I do not have any other point and shoots to test this theory but it makes since it would work.
Just thought I would share.

Mike,
Thanks for the dedication to your craft and art, and thank you for sharing.
The highspeed sync works with a G9 and cybersync transmitter and reciever as well. I am curious though, at 1/2000 I got a serious amount of (for lack of a better word) light loss. The entire frame was lit, it just wasn't lit as bright, and at 1/1600 and higher it was nearly 1.5 stops less than at 1/250. I suspect this is due to the flash duration of the Alien bees and not a limitation on the triggering. Was a pretty cool moment when I found that little jewel on the internet about my g9 and sync speed

What about high speed sync with a DSLR?

Getting amazing range, triggered my camera with them, easy to change channels - (16 at your fingertips) so honestly my PW's will never be used again in our studio.
PW's are a lot of money since there are so many middle men between the factory and you, with RP there are no middle men so you get the quality product at a cheaper price. Kinda cool if you ask me. The Standards are changing.

I probably won't use the PW's personally once they get the RP's working with my PL's but I do some shoots for events, fashion, sports etc where they have lights already set up with PW's and so I will probably keep them for that unless I can convince them to go RP's. My shooting partner and I already use his RP's for speedlites and I wouldn't trade them for anything else on the market. They just didn't work on my strobes. If these are in the same class as the PX series it will definitely be a new market.
