Battery Pack for 580 EX II, 550EX and 540EZ

This is a discussion on Battery Pack for 580 EX II, 550EX and 540EZ within the Lighting Discussion forums, part of the Photography Information category; I haven't had any trouble shooting four football games with the battery pack. That's a lot of pops....

Be careful firing off multiple flashes (repeatedly) with a battery pack and 580.... They can overheat fast....

BTW: Most 580 repairs at Canon run around $120....

I may have to get one of these as a backup to the CP-E3 that I have been using for years.

Wow the other ones on ebay only holds 6AA , this one is a must have for the gear list. I'm a little bit tired of having the Quantum on my belt lol. Thanks for the info and testing result.

Got mine in the mail today. The box is red and white as a Canon user might expect. The quality looks good. I loaded it with 8 AA rechargables I had in my bad and plugged it into my 580EX II and it seems fine.

If you have any doubts as to being a knockoff though, when you look at the instructions you'll know what you have:

"Protective Design -- Included protect case which available to hold on the belt or bag; easy to carry. It's also much increased the protection. The connecting plug anti-wrong inserts design; avoid missed using to failure flashlight system. There included the screw which can hold on the tripod mount."

The rest of the page is pretty much the same.

I need to add the red light on the pack indicating it is on is pretty dim.

Greg - I can usually get 2-3 off with my Quantum Turbo. Are you using High Speed or ETTL? I have my switch set to the right on the recycling meter (Ultra Fast).

I was watching this thread last Nov. and am about to purchase one.

Was wondering on any updates as far as the longevity and dependability of this pack....

I have 2 of these and they are great! The Pixel TD-381 has a dual circuit charging system.

DealExtreme: $50.00 PIXEL External Flash Battery Pack for Canon 580EXII/580EX/550EX/MR-14EX/MT-24EX (4*AA/8*AA)

You can look for reviews on other forums as they are highly recommended.
