Photogenic StudioMax light kits - 01-04-2010, 08:07 PM

I was recently given some photogenic strobe lights for use with umbrellas, and I'm wanting to add some softboxes. I've been looking at the StudioMax kits, particularly this one Photogenic | StudioMax III 640 W/S Softbox Portrait Kit | 956227 but am wondering if I HAVE to only use photogenic with these strobes since I was also given a battery pack to go with them? They are obviously a top-of-the-line company and very expensive, but if I can buy more inexpensive ones I'd sure like to save some money.

Almost all modern Photogenic lights use the same accessory mount system. I prefer the Photoflex softboxes both for the price and the ease of set up. Just purchase the Photogenic speed ring and you are set. Standard Softboxes

Photogenic is far from "top-of-the-line". I used their products and was highly disappointed (with this model in particular Studio Max III 320w/s strobe).

Don, is this what you're talking about?
Amazon.com: Interfit ASA1004 SpeedRing to Fit Photogenic Strobe Heads (Silver): Electronics

Then I would purchase one of those softboxes you gave a link for? But how does the speedring fit on the light? I have 5 of these lights:

Amazon.com: Photogenic PM10-6Q25 PhotoMaster Light Head with 6" Reflector, 25' cable, C4-1Q Flashtube and 100 watt ESR modeling lamp: Camera & Photo

They didn't "feel like" $400 pieces of equipment and that's not even talking about using them on location.

I mis-read your original post. I thought you were looking for a softbox for Studiomax strobes. I don't know of an adapter ring for a Promaster head. It would need to be one that either permanently attached to the head or one where the adapter ring attaches to the light stand and the head mounts to the ring. Sorry that I gave you wrong information.
