Stand with boom for Beauty Dish - 02-19-2010, 09:27 AM

So I want to get my beauty dish up high on a light stand. It is the 27" Elinchrom one. Primary use is to keep it from dropping my strobe and ruining my dish and light. Secondary use is to keep it from hitting the model.

Choices I found were:
Avenger | AVA2030DCB Turtle Base Century Stand, | A2030DCBKIT

Avenger C-Stand with 40" base and 40" boom.

Manfrotto | 3400 Convertible Boom Stand with Steel | 420CSUNS

Manfrotto 3400 Convertible stand/boom. As a boom, it can hold 13lbs.

I like C-stands, but I am leaning towards the Manfrotto one.

What say you?

I would strongly suggest you look into a wheeled stand for the beauty dish if you're using it as a key. I have two c-stands and a Matthews Baby Jr Double roller and I'll pick the roller for my key light every time. I have a 40" Hollywood gobo arm with the avenger clamp and have no problems running it all the way out to the end with a mono-light and 4x3' box on the end. Make sure you have some sand bags for the base though.

This is definitely one place you don't want to cheap out. Get the very best you can afford and be sure and counter weight it.

I like the Matthews Hollywood C-Stand and Boom with my 27" BD.
