Grids - 03-10-2010, 08:44 AM

So I know I am kind of new around here so most of you dont know that I almost always look for the DIY solution before I buy. I recently bought an AB800 beginner kit and a mount/umbrella for my 430ex. I will be using the 430 as a hair light or seperation light 90% of the time. So today I started looking around on the net for DIY grid plans. I have found a few to say the least. I found one that was the most interesting because of the supplier the guy used for his grid material. So I thought I would share the link to said supplier. I will likely be ordering some of this grid material in the next week or so. I f anyone else has already or does before me, please share your experience with us.

Thanks, Rob

Bout time someone found a cheaper alternative to the real grids. I even looked into the overhead florescent lighting grids and even they were like $80.
Why are the actual grids for lights/strobes so expensive? Anyone have a clue? Is it the R&D that go's into making them? I know materials and labor can't be that much if you mass-produce them

edit: Oh and thanks for the link! Rep points for you sir!

Wonder if I should order now, before he realizes for photography this is a steal and the prices triple or more.

Pardon my ignorance, but what are the differences in the degrees? Smaller is narrower or Larger is narrower?

Beekeeping Super Store Best Prices & Selection of Beekeeping Supplies - Mann Lake Ltd. need unwaxed.

What is funny is that I was talking to a photographer who is a beekeeper and he brought up maybe using this product to make up some grids for small flash units.

Got mine on friday, used one this weekend just rubber banded to my flash to use as a hair light, it worked great. I made an open ended box (both ends obviously) out of mat board to protect the sides of the grid, it is light weight plastic, from the rubber bands. In this protective box, i just toss it in my reflectors box (I have a plastic rubbermaid box that I store reflectors in) and off it went. Worked great...
