I need Help with buying lighting kit, I am a first time buyer and am totally lost. My budget is around $900.00 and I need it to take pictures of kids & elders in our family.
Your help will be highly appreciated. If you could please send me links of the kits that fit my need and budget, it would be really helpful as I have no idea in lighting.

Nikon D300
Lenses - 18-200 , 50 mm , 70-300

Thanking you all in advance
Sam Master

900 is pretty cheap for a light kit. You *could* get shop lights at home depot and do head shots with that.

Otherwise, get a couple cheap alienbees and cheap softboxes. A good kit with three lenses and a background stand with backgrounds is probably going to run you ~2000.

If you're just talking lights, the Elinchrom setup that Thomas bought is a killer deal. It's been upgraded since he bought his, and now includes a transmitter and built-in receivers.

Don't forget to budget $189 for a light meter like the Sekonic 308S. While you might be able to get away with trial and error I wouldn't want to shoot studio lights without one.
