Snoot vs Grid

I am still working on learning to use light modifiers, and this is one I have not yet had the chance to experiment with.

What is the primary difference in the effect a snoot has vs a grid on your light?

Both seem to give you a much narrower, more focussed light source, but there must be some diverence between the two. Does the snoot give a softer light than a grid?

In simple terms, a snoot will decrease the size of the light source while a grid will make the light more directional. The grid will also reduce some spread, but nowhere near the extent of a snoot's effect. A gridded snoot will create a small directional source which is much better than a snotted grid, which is just messy.
