Best Starter Kit for the Money - Need Advice? - 05-07-2010, 06:50 AM

So I'm getting ready to set up a little home studio. I've got a decent amount of space. Without breaking the bank, can anyone recommend a good starter kit? Also, I was looking about my local Camera Exchange and comparing a few of their kits.

Do you guys think it's best to go with strobes and soft boxes or incandecent bulbs with umbrellas?

Also, as far as aftermarket diffusers for 430 and 580 flashes, which ones do you like?

Thanks

Finally buying my first studio equipment

Whole studio setup on a budget of $2000.

Hot lights can work, but I wouldn't use them.

I don't use diffusers. They just take my power away.

Kirk Tuck has out a new book, Photographic Lighting Equipment: A Comprehensive Guide for Digital Photographers. Great look at all your options - hot lights, small strobes, strobe packs, mono lights, fluorescent, HMI, etc. etc. Amazon has it at Amazon.com: Photographic Lighting Equipment: A Comprehensive Guide for Digital Photographers (9781584289937): Kirk Tuck: Books
