Jim, I've had my EX600 since the end of June and have used it a dozen times or so. It's not a Quadra and it has some limitations, but it has some nice features. My price was $270 because my wife bought it for me directly in Beijing when she was there this summer - even for $100 more it's still a decent deal. I did an informal review of it here.

SB900 x 2 and a SB800 in three groups triggered by an on camera SU800. This setup actually used a Lowell Pro-Light 150 also.

I use up to 3 Fotodiox strobes with soft boxes or umbrellas and a cheap radio control unit. Thanks to very long power cords, I have yet to need a battery pack, but my luck will run out. I have tried to use off camera hot-shoe flashes, but outdoors, I just can't get the power I need.
