Canon Speedlite 580EX II Repair - 09-28-2010, 11:14 AM

I droped my 580ex ii and broke the plastic that goes in front of the IR sensor for ETTL communication. Is this something I should send it back to Canon for? Or can I buy the part somewhere?

Call Canon and they usually sell replacement parts. If its still under warranty self repair will probably void it...

FWIW it does not effect performance having it missing. I have a 550 EX that has been missing since about the third month that I had it.

Going on 5 years without any problems

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

Kent, I use it with an STE-2 transmitter and it didn't seem like it had as much range with the LED Panel (I found out that's what Canon calls it) missing. Maybe it was all in my head. Anyway, I ordered a replacement today from Canon. I think it was just over $18 delivered. Not too bad. Thanks for the tip, Daniel.
