10 oz is over 1/2 a pound. Do you want to hang that much weight on your flash head? This looks like a disaster waiting to happen... I'd want to see one in person before I considered buying.

Good point Scott. They should sell a bracket of some sort.

Most soft reflectors and beauty dish weight this much.
Just need good stands or better yet a ceiling mount rail system like we use.
I use Bowens Flash Lighting Accessories: Softlite Reflector and with the Bowens Esprit II's they are over 4 KG.

We do some heavy work LOL !!

Yes, but this device is for a hot-shoe type speedlight. Kind of defeats the need for a ceiling mount rail system

We always use remote control rail in our main studio cause its there.
We use dish + Bowens on location w stands. Thats 8+ pounds.
Bowens cause we need the the flash power.
I have used same style handheld w Phase One on NYC rooftops on windy days.

The above 10 ounce Lumodi dish is prob one of the lightest dishes around.
Brackets are an easy add.
If the 580 flash gives you enuff power then Kool.
Thats the real issue.
If you find a good lighter 14 + dish ... buy it !!!

For hotshoe flash, look into the BD that RPS markets. It comes with a Lastolite EZYBox style mount, and puts no weight on the flash head. The package also comes with a diffusion sock, and two different center reflectors.

I've just finished reading a bunch of reviews for these and I'm pretty much sold. Can anyone offer examples of what the differences would be image to image between a silver dish and a soft white?

Not yet, bought a 7D instead but I will. For what it's worth, Robert Hanashiro from Sports Shooter Academy uses one in this shoot with Clint Eastwood sportsshooteracademy.com
