What I have to shoot with...

90mm Tamron Macro lens
2- mono lights with big softboxes, or barndoors, grid, etc
2- continuous daylight florescents w/diffusers
white seamless
product photo tent
3- extra speedlights (if needed, probably not)

I don't think I'll use all of this or anything, just saying what tools I have for the job. I'll probably shoot on a less is more philosophy.

I was going to try it backlit and a few with some fill in the front... and maybe a combination of the two. if you've tried this before with decent results, hit me with some tips.

Why dont you just ask the ball? Isnt that what they are for?

Pretty much any way you light it it's going to just look like a glass ball. He does something different with it though and makes it look cool. Watch the BTS especially at around 3:15 to see how he does it.
I'm not sure what setting you're going for, if its just a product shot or a themed shoot, but let us know how it turns out!
