Cactus Wireless Flash Transciever V5 Duo Review - 01-06-2011, 11:13 AM

Hey gang,

I was fortunate to be one of the select few to beta test the new Cactus V5's flash triggers. They have undergone MAJOR enhancement. We have be communicating our field tests on a private forum over on gadgetinfinity.com and we now have permission to start publishing our reviews.

Pricing and availability is still under covers but I can't hint that it's just around the corner and the price will be very similar to the V4's.

Darn! I just got my V4s a few months back. I like that they are transmitter/receivers. The redesign looks much better too.

I think you hit the wrong thread in your reply.

this is relevant to my interests.

thanks for the review, been looking to replace my V4s, since they misfire on the wrong moments for a bit too much.

Just got the V4, one tx and 2 rx...haven't used them that much yet but when I have used them, seemed to work just fine...we'll see how things go after more use i guess. Any comparisons with the Cowboy Studios wireless triggers?

Just ordered a pair of the V5's. I'll see how they stack up against my Cybersyncs. If they look good you'll be able to snag my CS's in the Buy/Sell section pretty soon

What adapters do you use for your Sony alpha? I have been looking around for triggers to use with my Sony alpha 350

Thanks for the help in advance

Why? Do you expect them to work better than your Cybersyncs? Are you not satisfied with your CSs?
I'm just asking because I'm in the "making up my mind process" about new strobe triggers for my AlienBees.

My Cybersyncs actually are fantastic, never had a misfire (and I use them to trigger speedlites for sports), great range. I have a couple issues with them however that the V5's seem to address:
I hate the channel selector on the CS, the V5 has a toggle wheel for that, a small thing but it makes a difference.

The biggest thing is the double hot shoe on the V5, I can mount it on my camera and still have a flash there, I don't need a hot shoe adapter like I do with my CS's

I love the option to use it as a remote shutter release

Every unit is a transceiver, don't need to buy one transmitter and multiple receivers, if one goes down on a shoot I can just swap it out.

Cost less than a CS system, if I like them I can sell my CS's and almost break even

Thanks for the feedback, Andrew. Let me know when you consider selling your CS stuff, I might be interested.

Since I broke the transmitter on my CTR-301, or what ever it was, this may be just the way to go. About half the price of CS and the remote shutter capability too.

How about backward compatibility with V4?
