Softbox for speedlite and profoto strobe??? - 04-06-2011, 08:53 AM

Hi!

I would like to get a medium portable softbox which I can use with my Canon flash and profoto strobe.

I have looked around. I like Photoflex Litedome and Wescott Apollo 28 a lot but the problem is that they only work with camera flashes but not with powerful strobes. At least that's what BH says on its website: "for camera flash only".

Do you know any softbox/octabox on which I can set up my camera flash and a profoto speed ring as well?

Thanks!

In general, speedlight softboxes are smaller than full on studio strobe boxes. There are several issues that must be addressed for what you are wanting to achieve.

Most softboxes designed for studio strobes offer ventilation for heat build up. They are designed to maximize the larger amount of light. Placing a speedlight softbox on a studio strobe will more than likely melt the poor little box. The smaller box will make your light hard rather than softer (for which the box is designed to do in the first place)

Placing a speedlight in a studio strobe softbox will require more than one speedlight placed in it to maximize the desired quality of light. Scoring a medium studio strobe softbox is probably the best answer. This option has been asked in the forums before.

The following you can use your speedlight on.

Lastolite EzyBox
Cheetahstand Qbox kit or you can go with their pro bracket and then you can go with stripboxes, octaboxes, and beauty dish

I was going to state this morning, Ken beat me to it...
If you buy the 24 Cheetah Softbox all you need is a speed ring for your Prophoto, very easy & fast to setup & tare down! The 24 Cheetah also comes with a grid... Good luck
