Lighting in a Home Studio - 04-12-2011, 08:54 AM

Hey y'all,

So I am setting up in one of our spare bedrooms, a home studio. Picked this room because of the nice natural light pouring in from the sun everyday, since it faces south.

Anyway, I got some white seamless paper hanging from the wall, so I got a background down, now my question is about the floor. Currently, there is carpet in that room, kind of a Almond white color, and its alright is pictures, but I wanted to know if there is some kind of covering I can lay down that would look better in pictures or am I going to have to rip up the carpet. Please don't say the latter....

Thanks!

Lay some plywood or something over the floor and lay some white seamless over that. A nice sheet of plexiglass over the white seamless will give you a nice subtle reflection.

You can also put down some 5/8" MDO or MDF sheets which are bright white on 2 sides (you can get it at Home Depot). On the back side you can apply some of the peel and stick flooring in wood or stone or whatever, so you can quickly flip it over to another floor type if you switch from the white seamless to a muslin or something. Do like Thomas already mentioned and put the seamless on top of the plywood or MDO (with or without lexan) which will keep the paper from tearing when walked on.
