New Canon 580 EX II Flash - 04-28-2011, 10:30 PM

I just received a new Canon 580 EX II flash and would like some suggestions on how I can use it along with my Canon 550 EX flash. Such as using the 550 as a slave flash and the 580 II as a master flash. I would appreciate any help that can be offered. Although I do not have pocket wizards yet. Can I use the flashes wirelessly? How? If there are any diagrams I'd appreciate it.

Best,
Jerry

You're already ahead of the game by having a 550ex to use as a slave. Congrats.

The 580exII and 550ex will work fine together as master and slave using Canon's "wireless" technology. Bear in mind that you need line of sight from master to slave if outdoors, and adequate reflective walls indoors if line of sight is not available. You DO NOT need to use the AC5 RFI sock on the 550ex. It does not have RFI issues.

When you are ready to pick up pocketwizards, I'd recommend you skip the miniTT1 and pick up two flexTT5's. This allows you to stick with AA batteries.

Not sure what kind of diagrams you are looking for.

You've probably figured this out by now, but I just got my 580 and had to figure that out too. Here's a quick video I found...
