So I have 3 AB800 and 1 AB1600, but I am looking at replacing 2 AB800 with a Elinchrom Ranger Quadra A heads. So I have a question for those who went from AB/WL to Elinchrom Ranger Quadra.
Why did you change? What were the biggest different you saw when you changed? Is it worth the upgrade?

Well I know that.. but the vagabond mini makes the battery roughly the same weight "roughly" :)

What I've heard from some who have used both is that the Elinchrom lights have a more constant color to them. That's just my .02 but I shoot purely AB's (1600, ABR800, AB400) and don't have a problem with them.

Elincrom Quadra have a constant color was on of the decifding factors for me. The other is that I wanted something a little more portable than the AB's.

my AB's are plenty portable and I have only ever noticed 1 image in over 20,000 that had a color shift.

My AB's are fantastic (2 AB800 and ABR800) I also have no complaints about color shift. for now, they are not the weak link in my gear, I can do everything I want and more.
Now, Wanting new lights is a whole nutta story, I would love to have the best of the best, but my need for it is not there.....today

Stanford,
The elinchrom quadra's have found a place as niche lighting for wedding photographers and if it were not for the work I've seen by Ed Pingol, I wouldn't even know what they are.
You already have what you need for the type of shooting you do. Would the quadra's be better? Most likely, YES!
Do you need to change? Only you can answer that.
The lighting portion of my kit consists of six profoto compact 600R's, 3 quantum T5D-R's (used with the FreeXwire system) and six Canon speedlites (2-580eII's and 4-550ex's(used with FlexTT5's))
Each type of lighting has a specific purpose that the others can't replace on the fly.
I'd love to have a set of the quadra's to play with, but I honestly don't think they would be a game changer for me. All that I know they would do for sure is.., allow me to use the 39" elinchrom deep octa.
I don't think that alone merits the expense.
The key is finding the light modifier that suits your needs and is as flexible as your shooting style requires.
